Is the decline in skilled print workers really a problem?
Statistics released recently revealed that the number of skilled tradespeople working in the printing sector fell by 73% between 2006 and 2021.
These figures were obtained by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and showed a huge downfall in the number of industry workers classed as skilled printing workers over the past 15 years.
These skilled workers – pre-press technicians, printers, post-press workers, and print machine assistants – fell from 112,300 in 2006 to just 30,500 in 2021.
And while the departure of so many traditionally skilled people is a big loss for the industry, it is more important now than ever, to have a #softwaresolution that can optimize your processes and help the printing industry with these dramatic changes.
What is the solution to this situation?
This is where DynamicsPrint fits in to the equation.
Our all‑in‑one resource planning and operations system, specifically tailored to your individual business model, will save you time and also reduce your costs dramatically.
We will help your employees with the implementation of the software and how to understand every single module of the ERP solution. This means you can optimize your business processes, despite being fewer professionals on-site.
Nick Benkovich, Vice President & Global Portfolio Product Manager at eProductivity Software (ePS) had this to say about the declining workforce in the industry:
“When I started in print, every machine in the shop had an operator. Today I will go into shops that have 60 pieces of equipment and 38 operators, because some aren’t always used and they’re cross-training people,” Benkovich said during a Connect press session.
“The expectation is that there is no such thing as a singular role in a print facility anymore – the guy that does scheduling also does planning and sometimes does billing. That’s the world we live in, and that’s what these tools are starting to provide for us.”
So to return to the original question… Is the decline in skilled print workers a problem?
Not if you have the right software to support your jobcycles.

“The implementation was carried out to our complete satisfaction and lived up to all our expectations. DynamicsPrint consultants and developers had a clear understanding of our problems, and the design and implementation went smoothly.
The system fully meets our expectations and saves considerable time and consequently money, in all the administration routines. In particular the estimation program is doing a great job with quick and accurate estimates for even very complex jobs, and the order calculation gives us all the necessary information in order to minimize errors and produce by best practice all the time.”
